Frequently Asked Questions
Please fill out our contact form if you cannot find an answer to your question.
How do you choose which gyms to display on the map?
The goal of this site is to provide powerlifters with information about the locations of gyms that have high-spec powerlifting equipment that you wouldn’t find at a generalist gym. As a result, gyms are considered for inclusion if they have at least two of the following:
- Power bars
- Calibrated thin metal plates
- Combo racks
If a gym does not meet the above criteria, a gym will still be added if they have at least three of the following:
- Squat bars
- Deadlift bars
- Calibrated thin metal plates
- Monolifts
Eligible gyms get featured free of charge, and gyms that are not eligible cannot pay us to be featured.
If you believe we have incorrect information about one of the gyms on the map, please let us know through our contact form.
What does it mean if a gym is “private”, and why include them?
We consider ‘private’ gyms to be those which operate (almost or completely) exclusively through personal training and/or classes. This is in contrast to gyms which have an ‘open gym’ policy, whereby members can train at any time during open hours. Gyms with a membership cap (but allow their members to train on an open gym basis) are not considered private.
While we anticipate most users of this site are looking for open gyms, we have chosen to include private gyms for those people who are looking for a more structured experience.
If you believe we have incorrectly categorised a gym as ‘private’ or have categorised a private gym as ‘open’, please get in touch using our contact form.
What does it mean if a gym has been “verified”?
The most important thing to us is the integrity of the information we hold. Online research can uncover a lot about a gym, but mistakes will inevitably get through.
As a result, if we have had the opportunity to visit a gym and confirm our information is correct, we will let you know by adding a comment to the gym’s info window.
Gyms are continuously upgrading their services and even information we have personally verified will eventually become out of date. That is why we also provide a verification date.
In future we hope to work directly with the gyms to keep information accurate and recent.
Will you be expanding the gym list to include gyms outside the UK?
This is part of the medium-long term plan for the site. First we want to make sure we have properly covered the UK before we move on to other countries.
If there is a specific country you’re interested in, let us know through our contact form, as this will give us an idea of the most useful places to consider.
I am a gym owner looking to promote my gym or announce new equipment. Can I do this through your site?
